Hilary Glover

Hilary is the mother of 2 handsome (yet feral) boys, Sawyer and Silas. You'll usually find her barefoot in the community garden or at her other passion for ministry work. Along side being the founder of Honey in the Rock, she is also the Ministry Resident at The Orchard Church.

Hilary Glover

As many of you know, mission has been a huge part of my life for a very long time. God has had an intricate plan of putting pieces together when I was least expecting it, and Honey in the Rock has been no exception.

Through various moving parts and stepping stones that God has put in front of me, I was led to create Honey in the Rock. Our mission at Honey in the Rock is to help alleviate generational poverty and hunger by teaching necessary life skills and self-sufficiency. In other words, we are trying to go deeper than offering a hand-out but offering a hand-up. We want to do more than feed a family today, we want to teach them how to feed themselves for a lifetime.

Honey in the Rock offers a wide range of life skills classes such as sewing, crochet, gardening, canning, cooking, meal planning, budgeting, couponing, and more. Our long term goal is to create a consumer-choice food pantry that is set up to look like a grocery store. This would allow our clients to have some dignity even when having to ask for help. While consumers would still be limited on how much of each item they would be allowed to take for the month, they would feel like they were grocery shopping and take what they would use, rather than being handed a box of things that they may or may not know how to cook or would not eat. On top of that, they would be given a cook book full of recipes specific to the ingredients that are available for that month.

Honey in the Rock is a very new concept of ministry. We are working to establish intentional relationships with the people around us. We are aware that while people may have different struggles or shortcomings than we do, we are ultimately all equal. As such, we will all be treated as equals. While sitting in various classes together, eating together, shopping together, learning together, and simply living life together, we learn that it truly does take a village to live a successful life, and our villages can and should look a lot more diverse than what they may currently look like.

I highly encourage you to give Honey in the Rock a try. Come join us for a class. Sit with us during a meal. Bring a box of donated books or kitchen items that some of our families can utilize. But most importantly, come build relationships with people who will teach you things you didn't know you didn't know, and learn to love just as Christ intended for us to love one another, regardless of race, sex, ethnicity, or religion.
